No. As a public service agency, the strategic advice, guidance and networking provided by AWEX Area Managers are free of charge for Walloon companies that have achieved a score of 50% in their maturity assessment.

An Area Manager is an expert based at Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) headquarters (in either Brussels or Wallonia) who specialises in a specific geographical area (e.g. Western Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific). Their role is to serve as your first strategic point of contact before you approach a foreign market. They oversee promotional activities in that area, liaising with our network of foreign attachés.

Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) covers almost the entire globe, but the level of service may vary.

• Priority countries: there are AWEX offices on the ground and intensive monitoring by the Area Manager.
• Countries covered by jurisdiction: some countries do not have their own AWEX office but are covered by a neighbouring office or by the relevant Belgian Embassy, always under the supervision of the Area Manager.

This is a crucial distinction:

• The Area Manager is based in Belgium. They define the overall strategy, advise you at the outset and validate the suitability of your project for their area.
• The Economic and Commercial Counselor is based abroad (in the target country). They act as your “eyes and ears” on the ground, providing accurate local information, lists of potential customers and logistical support during your visits.
