Support for business clusters

In addition to the financial aid granted individually to Walloon businesses, Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) also supports them by funding activities included in the annual programme of actions abroad for business clusters (Walloon federations, clusters, etc.).

Advantages

Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) provides financial support to business clusters (professional federations, clusters, exporters’ clubs, etc.) on the basis of an annual programme of actions abroad, such as:

  • prospecting and promotion missions abroad;
  • participation in trade fairs abroad;
  • seminars organised in Belgium or abroad;
  • invitations to foreign decision-makers in Wallonia;
  • communication materials intended for international distribution and digital marketing;

The cluster must be registered at the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (CBE) and listed in the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) database of Walloon exporters.

Contribution

Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) covers a maximum of 50% of the eligible budget after application of the Walloon pro rata.
The amount of the grant for the organisation of missions or collective stands abroad is calculated in proportion to the number of Walloon participants in the action.
The grant for other activities carried out is calculated in proportion to the number of Walloon members of the cluster.

Advance

An advance payment equivalent to 50% of the grant is paid to the cluster as soon as the grant is awarded.

Balance

The cluster must submit the request for the balance by 30 April of the calendar year following the year to which the grant relates. The payment request will be rejected after this date.

How can you submit an application?

The cluster submits its grant application by completing the online form available via its client zone, with the following in attachment:

  • Its annual programme of actions for international expansion and the budget for implementing it;
  • Its articles of association;
  • An up-to-date list of its members;
  • A list of the grants it intends to apply for, is applying for or has obtained from any organisation, institution or public authority for the implementation of its international programme of actions;
  • A statement of claim for the payment of the advance.

Practical information

All grant applications must be submitted by 31 May of the calendar year in which the programme of actions is planned.

Payment of the advance for any new grant is conditional upon a request for payment of the balance of the previous grant.

The beneficiary is required to inform Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) and seek its prior approval for any changes to the programme of actions.

This is a ‘De Minimis’ aid measure within the meaning of Commission Regulation (EU) No 2023/2831 of 13 December 2023.

How to submit a request for payment of the grant?

To receive the balance of their grant and in accordance with the principle of trust, the beneficiary must submit the following to Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) by 30 April of the calendar year following the year to which the grant relates:

  • A duly completed statement of claim;
  • A report on the initiatives carried out within the subsidised programme of actions.
  • A statement of eligible costs incurred.

We reiterate that every beneficiary undertakes to reimburse Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) for all or part of any unwarranted grant.
